Living in rented accommodation for so long can really take its toll on how you feel with the space around you. Not wanting to do too much to decorate your rental because “it’s not your own home” is a common reason for not spending too much effort on your surroundings. However, being in our home for so many years and looking at the same walls every morning and evening before I go to sleep felt so limiting. I wanted to decorate our bedroom with an affordable budget in mind, but also not doing too much that I couldn’t take with me when we (finally) move.
Decorating Your Rental
So, I went about gathering some items to DIY and style according to how I wanted the new aesthetic to look. I wanted a calming, soft pallet with neutral tones and a peaceful style. Gathering light wood and gold accessories and changing up the curtains to a beachier voile netting to frame the window (I just love how they blow in the wind and remind me of being somewhere hot and far away!) I shared a few of the DIY room décor upcycles to my YouTube channel and I am so impressed with how they turned out. Especially the little apothecary shelving and hydro-dipped vase.
Once I had styled it all there was something missing. The knick-knacks were cute, but the blank walls were still staring back at me. Having styled a room before with Desenio prints I knew they were the perfect place to buy wall art, so I set about browsing their website to find some prints to suit my desired aesthetic as I know they have pretty much every single design you could possibly want! I did a rough count and I think every single room in my house bar the bathrooms have prints from Desenio!!
I wanted the prints to make me feel I was in a relaxing, holiday style mood. Since I last shopped on the website they have now bought out their extremely straightforward gallery wall configurator which made it so easy to choose which prints you like, how they would look together and what sizes you need, all matched with the correct frames – easy peasy!
I loved the style of what we had in the living room but wanted a lighter, more neutral tone and came across this stunning print which reminded me of both an aerial view of a beach and an abstract image. Next, I wanted something from the ocean to whisk me away to somewhere relaxing and warm whenever I needed a pick me up! The soft, sunset photo was the perfect colours for this relaxing space. I then chose “in the reeds” which reminded me of pampas grass – my new obsession! And finally, I finished my gallery wall off with this muted print of flowing curtain onto a pool, I can almost feel the wind billowing gently across me as I look at it and it makes me feel so peaceful!
This gallery wall was the perfect finishing touch to my room transformation, and I was thrilled with it when I put it all together. The sizing’s I went for are such that when we do move, they will easily find their place in a new home and look great together or maybe as 2 separate designs.
I’m so pleased how I managed to turn this drab and frankly depressing space that I’ve been staring at for more years than I care to count into a haven where I love to wake up to each morning, without having to do any major work whilst renting! What do you think? Have you been putting off decorating your rental because you don’t want to waste money? Hopefully this has given you some ideas for how to decorate your rental to make it your own!
